JOEL KATZ voice studio offers lessons in operatic technique and monthly master classes for professional singers and aspiring students of opera. Fach changes and resolution of technical issues are his particular specialty. Director of the Royal Conservatory Summer Opera program, and a Faculty member of the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory, Mr. Katz has had the privilege of training some of the most prominent Wagnerian singers on the international stage. He has had vocal studios in Bayreuth, Germany, Brussels, Belgium, and Manchester, England. His home teaching studio is in Toronto.

He has assisted artists in preparation for roles at the Bayreuth Festival, the Metropolitan Opera, the Staatsoper in Berlin, La Scala and the Wiener Staatsoper. Praised by William Littler and others for his “sonorously deep voice” (Toronto Star), he recently created the roles of the Judge and the Minister in Alexina Louie’s “Burnt Toast” for CBC TV and Rhombus Media. In the 2007-8 season, he performed Sacristan and Jailer in Puccini’s Tosca for Opera Ontario, and the role of the Ancien Evreu in Samson et Dalila. His performance was acclaimed as "distinguished" by the Hamilton Spectator. In April 2008 he sang the role of Bartolo in the RCM's "Le Nozze di Figaro", under maestro Mario Bernardi.
